Primary Teaching for Mastery (Introductory) Work Groups

The Primary Teaching for Mastery Introductory Programme is a fully funded, two-year programme for schools with pupils in the primary phase that have not previously participated in a Teaching for Mastery programme.

The programme helps schools build on existing strengths, develop a shared vision for maths and take practical steps towards sustainable, whole-school improvement.

What will your school gain? 

Through practical support, expert guidance and collaboration with other schools, the programme will help you:

• Build confidence in Teaching for Mastery, high-quality resources and approaches that promote positive mathematical mindsets.
• Develop the systems and structures that support sustained, school-wide development in maths.
• Work alongside an experienced NCETM trained Mastery Specialist and other local schools to share ideas, experiences and learning.
• Keep up to date with national developments in maths and consider what they mean for your school.
• Build on what is already working well and identify practical next steps for your school’s continued development.

What is involved? 

• Five full-day workshops each year, providing opportunities to develop knowledge, explore effective practice and learn alongside colleagues from other schools.
• Three half-day bespoke support sessions each year, tailored to your school’s priorities, strengths and next steps.
• Up to two participants per school, typically the Maths Lead and one other colleague, actively supported by Senior Leadership. 

What is the cost?

The programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so there is no cost to participating schools.
